Arizona takes 2-0 baseball win over WSU in 11 innings

Arizona scored a pair of unearned runs in the 11th inning to take a 2-0 victory over Washington State at Pullman on Sunday.

A two-out dropped fly ball error by outfielder Cameron Frost allowed Wildcats runners on first and second to score.

Ian Hamilton (0-3) pitched three innings and took the loss. Cougars starter Ryan Walker went seven innings and gave up two hits and a walk while striking out a career-high seven.

The Cougars loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the 11th before a ground out ended the game.

Derek Chapman had a pair of hits for Washington State (25-21, 8-13 Pac-12) to extend his hitting streak to six games.

The victory gave Arizona (27-18, 11-13) the series win in the three-game set.

• Ty Moore drove in Brett Stephens from second base in the bottom of the ninth to give second-ranked UCLA a 6-5 victory over Gonzaga in the rubber game of the three-game nonconference series in Los Angeles.

The Bruins rallied from four-run deficit with a run in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Mitchell Gunsolus and Taylor Jones both connected for their fifth home runs of the season for Gonzaga. Gunsolus, Jeffrey Boehling and Tyler Frost had two hits each for the Bulldogs (21-23).

Freshman Eli Morgan made his first start for the Bulldogs and went 5 1/3 innings, giving up four runs to end his scoreless streak at 14 innings. David Bigelow (0-4), who relieved Morgan, got the loss.

Softball

Lovie Lopez hit a grand slam and Natalie Hampton added a pair of home runs as the Oregon State Beavers (26-24, 6-14 Pac-12) handed No. 20 Washington (38-14, 9-10) a 14-8 defeat in Seattle. The Huskies hit three homers, including a grand slam by Kimberlee Souza.

Soccer

Adam Talley and Sam Engle scored two goals each and the Spokane Shadow began defense of their Evergreen Premier League championship with an 8-2 victory over host Wentachee.

The Shadow host Seattle in their home opener Saturday night at 7 at Spokane Falls CC.
