Man shot by Spokane police identified

From staff reports
The man shot by Spokane police Wednesday night fired a gun several times and yelled “Do it!” before he was shot, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. The man, 25-year-old Craig S. Burton, is in critical condition at the hospital after one officer shot him. Police were called to a home in the 5500 block of North Ash Street just before 10 p.m. Wednesday and told Burton was possibly armed and suicidal. The Sheriff’s Office said officers were establishing a perimeter and planning to deploy less lethal options when Burton began shooting. The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting as part of the Spokane Investigative Regional Response team, which investigates deadly uses of force. The Spokane Police Department will release the name of the officer involved in the incident. Police said one officer on scene was wearing a body camera, but the footage had not yet been reviewed on Wednesday night. Documents charging Burton with first-degree assault have been forwarded to the Spokane County Prosecutor’s Office for review, the Sheriff’s Office said.
