University High’s ‘Poppins’ opens

University High School’s production of “Mary Poppins” opens tonight.

The musical stars Caitlyn Duffey as Mary Poppins,  Evan Figuracion as Bert,  Jeremy Pope as George Banks,  Nic Harris as Winifred Banks,  Jasmine Storey as Mrs. Brill, Caitlyn Horton as Bird Woman, Brady MacGruder as Robertson Ay and Rylee Harlen as Miss Andrew. 

Horizon Middle School’s Logan Jess and Ponderosa Elementary School’s Olivia McNiece star as Jane and Michael Banks.

U-Hi’s production includes many of the songs from the Disney film, including “A Spoonful of Sugar,” “Let’s Go Fly a Kite” and “Supercalifragilisticexpialido- cious.”

Tickets are $12 and can be picked up at the school’s business office. Cash and checks made out to University High School are preferred, but the office also accepts credit cards. Tickets also are available at the door. All shows are assigned seating.

Performances are today-Saturday and May 14-15 at 7 p.m. and Sunday and May 16-17 at 1 p.m. at the school, 12420 E. 32nd Ave., Spokane Valley. For more information, contact director Briane Green at bgreen@cvsd.org.

Kindergartners to honor mothers with tea event

In honor of their mothers and grandmothers, Northwest Christian kindergartners will hold a Mother’s Day Tea on Friday.

Students will perform songs and recite poems and Scripture verses. Tea will be served in fancy teapots and decorative cups alongside baked goods, which the kindergartners helped make.

Students also worked on cards, gifts and decorations.
