GOP attacks self-defeating

When the Republicans won both chambers during the last election, I hoped that the avalanche of attacks against the president would stop. On the contrary, they increased. “He is ignorant” (Sen. Marco Rubio); “He doesn’t love his country” (Rudy Giuliani); “He is the worst president” (Dick Cheney).

This “worst president,” elected twice, concluded a factually ungrounded Iraqi war, ends another and increases our strength through diplomacy like a true statesman: wise, practical, extremely cultural, compassionate. The economy is growing, the dollar is up, unemployment is down, and over 16 million Americans finally have health insurance.

Meanwhile, listen to his opposition, each jostling the other in the schoolyard for power and control. Grow up! The whole world rumbles, innocents are beheaded, and desperate millions flee from conflict and chaos. Hatred spreads like a virus and our enemies happily witness our discord.

Doesn’t the GOP realize that both conservative and liberal values are needed in the life of a nation? Don’t they know that a bird in flight needs both wings? Stop taking potshots at ourselves. Why not stand by the president and demonstrate to a world on fire that only by working together can we truly champion freedom, democracy and prosperity?
