Orioles 3, Angels 0

Mike Wright took a three-hitter into the eighth inning of his major league debut, and Baltimore ended visiting Los Angeles’ five-game winning streak. Adam Jones scored on a wild pitch in the fourth inning and added a two-run double in the eighth to help Baltimore salvage the finale of the three-game series and improve to 1-12 when scoring fewer than four runs. Wright allowed four hits, struck out six and walked none in 7 1/3 innings. After giving up an eighth-inning single to Matt Joyce, the right-hander was removed by manager Buck Showalter and walked off the mound to a standing ovation by many in the crowd of 41,733.

Edinson Volquez threw three-hit ball for seven innings, Salvador Perez homered and drove in two runs and Kansas City rudely welcomed Chris Capuano back to the big leagues with a victory over visiting New York. Volquez struck out five without issuing a walk in an effortless performance. Capuano made his season debut after rehabbing a quad strain that he sustained in spring training. The veteran left-hander gave up four runs on four hits and two walks, and left New York in a big hole when he was pulled four batters into the third inning.

Braves 6, Marlins 0

Shelby Miller’s no-hit bid ended with two out in the ninth inning when Justin Bour singled sharply up the middle, and the Atlanta right-hander pitched a two-hitter in a win in Miami that completed a three-game sweep. Bour’s hit came on the 89th pitch by Miller, who threw a strike on the first pitch to 26 of 29 batters and had 70 strikes among 94 pitches. Miller walked one and benefited from an early replay reversal to flirt with what would have been the first no-hitter for the Braves in 21 years.

Mets 5, Brewers 1

Prized Mets pitching prospect Noah Syndergaard earned his first major league win, the success tempered when he beaned Carlos Gomez with a 96 mph fastball, and New York beat visiting Milwaukee. Syndergaard shut down the Brewers for the first five innings in his Citi Field debut, giving up just one single. In the sixth, he gave everyone a scare. After a leadoff single, Syndergaard hit Gomez squarely in the helmet. The two-time All-Star outfielder went face down in the dirt for a few seconds. Gomez walked off the field with the trainers at his side and was replaced by a pinch runner.

Sean O’Sullivan won a big league game for the first time in more than four years, staying in after he was hit in the throat by a throw from his own catcher, and Philadelphia beat visiting Arizona for its first five-game winning streak since last summer. O’Sullivan allowed five hits in six innings, struck out four and walked two. He turned to talk to his fielders in the sixth with two on and a full count, then as he pivoted to face the plate was struck on the throat with a throw by Cameron Rupp. After a brief delay and one warmup toss, O’Sullivan retired Aaron Hill on a flyout with his next and final pitch of the day. A 27-year-old right-hander, O’Sullivan had been 0-9 with a 7.19 ERA in 13 starts and five relief appearances since winning at Yankee Stadium for Kansas City on May 12, 2011.

Brandon Belt homered for the third time in three games, Nori Aoki drove in three runs and visiting San Francisco beat Cincinnati after nearly wasting a five-run lead. Hunter Pence homered in his second game back from a broken forearm. The World Series champions won three straight games in Cincinnati for the first time since 2005 and at 20-18 moved two games over .500 for the first time since they were 3-1. The Giants had 16 hits, matching their season high, and outscored opponents 44-21 on a six-game trip.

A.J. Burnett worked around five walks while pitching seven innings, and visiting Pittsburgh stopped a four-game losing streak by cooling off Chicago. Burnett allowed three hits and struck out seven while handing Jake Arrieta his first loss in six career starts against Pittsburgh. Burnett has allowed two runs or less in each of his eight starts this year after losing 18 games with Philadelphia last season. The Cubs had won six in a row and seven of nine. Rookie third baseman Kris Bryant was pulled after four innings, and the team said he was ill.

Mike Bolsinger pitched three-hit ball for six innings and Yasmani Grandal singled home the only run, leading Los Angeles to a victory that salvaged a split of their four-game series with visiting Colorado. Bolsinger struck out six, walked two and allowed only one runner past first base in his third start of the season. Kenley Jansen was back in his customary closer’s role and pitched a perfect ninth for the save. Kyle Kendrick was the hard-luck loser, limiting the N.L. West leaders to a run and three hits over seven innings.

Stephen Strasburg rebounded from a rough start to beat his hometown team for the fourth straight time, and Bryce Harper and Danny Espinosa hit three-run homers to power Washington in San Diego. The Nationals won the final three of the four-game series and for the 15th time in 19 games. Harper went 3 for 3 with a walk and four RBIs. His N.L.-leading 14th homer was an opposite-field shot to left off reliever Dale Thayer with one out in the seventh. Harper also had an infield RBI single and a triple.

Cardinals 2, Tigers 1

Kolten Wong hit a tiebreaking home run in the sixth inning and Lance Lynn got his fifth career RBI to back his dominant pitching as St. Louis beat visiting Detroit to avoid a three-game sweep. Miguel Cabrera’s RBI double in the first was the only damage against Lynn, who gave a weary bullpen a break before walking the last two batters he faced at the end of his 7 1/3 innings. Alfredo Simon gave up two runs in six innings for the Tigers.
