Volunteer opportunities

Camp Fire USA Inland Northwest Council - Opportunities are available to be a club co-leader in the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene area. Contact Marcia Asmussen, program coordinator, at (509) 747-6191. Camp Dart-Lo - Volunteers are needed to help with minor repairs and finish work. The camp is in need of lumber, siding, trim, screws and nails. Catholic Charities - Drivers are needed to deliver “brown bags” to those in need of meals who are unable to obtain food themselves. Volunteers must pass a Washington State Patrol background check, have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle to use for food deliveries and be able to lift and carry bags weighing 8 to 10 pounds. Communities In Schools - Volunteers are needed to help site coordinators at Shaw Middle School and/or Sheridan Elementary School. Volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of four hours per week to help with paperwork, student programs, chaperoning students during/between classes, lunch times, recess times and tutoring. Dachshund Rescue NW and Dachshund Club of Spokane – Volunteers are needed to hug dachshunds so they will be socialized before being placed in new homes. Open at 10 a.m. daily with an appointment. Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant – To offer nutritious meals three times a week to women and children in need, volunteers are needed to pick up food, serve, clean up the meals, and wash dishes. Experienced prep cooks are needed Monday-Thursday, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. A food handlers card is required. Volunteers are also needed to manage inventory, electronically keep statistics and help with laundry, special events, fundraising, maintenance and repair, marketing and security. Meals are also prepared and sent to Hope House, St. Margaret’s Shelter and Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery on a regular basis. World Relief – Volunteers are needed to act as refugee simulation station leaders. Leaders will help participants through various stations including a food station, a medical screening, a language station and a refugee screening interview. For the language station, speaking a second language besides English is required. The organization also needs volunteers to join the Gala Fall Dinner planning committee and to act as ESL/cultural mentors. YWCA of Spokane – The YWCA Women’s Opportunity Center is looking for volunteers to help as job coaches, computer lab support, story collectors, a tech coach and a financial coach (all with a minimum of one- to four-hour shifts with a three-month commitment), a Jump Start program navigator (minimum of one to four hours a week for at least six months), wellness facilitators (minimum of one to two hours per month commitment) and professionals in the community. The center’s women’s boutique, Our Sister’s Closet, is also looking for a program assistant (minimum of two-and-a-half hour shifts for a six-month commitment with a two-week trial period).
