Architecture

NAC|Architecture has promoted Don McKinney to senior associate and Jill Kurtz and Dustin Rush to associates. McKinney is a construction contract administrator and cost estimator with 34 years of experience in his field. Kurtz is an architect and Rush is the firm’s IT systems administrator.

Education

Greg Bever has been named 2015 Trustee of the Year by Washington State Association of College Trustees. Bever has been a member of the Community Colleges of Spokane board of trustees since 2007 and served as board president in 2010 and 2012. He was the publisher of the Journal of Business from 1997 until 2012.

Central Valley School District has named Marla Nunberg Genther as the director of communications. In addition, the school district has named Eric Hoglund as the executive director of elementary learning and teaching and Molly Carolan as the director of special education, effective July 1. Nunberg Genther was previously with Downtown Spokane Partnership for 17 years and served as the vice president of the organization. Hoglund has been the principal at Prairie View Elementary in the Mead School District for five years. Carolan has been the principal for three years at the Summit School and Spokane Valley Learning Academy.

Engineering

Gawain Salassi Sr. has joined Taylor Engineering Inc. as a field surveyor. Salassi has 18 years of experience in field surveying and construction layout.

Finance

Pete Chase has joined ICM Asset Management as chief operating officer. Chase was the co-founder and chief executive officer of Purcell Systems. He is founder and chief executive officer of Columbia International Finance.

Health care

Louise Peck has been named Washington’s Outstanding Dietitian of the Year for 2015 by the Washington State Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Peck is a research dietitian for Washington State University Spokane. The award is the highest honor given by the academy and recognizes leadership and professionalism. In addition, Stacey Trogdon has been named the recipient of the 2015 Community Practice Award for Excellence in recognition of her professional contributions. Trogdon is an eating disorder dietitian for the Emily Program.

Insurance

In recognition of their professional contributions, PayneWest Insurance has recognized Jenel Harju and Anita Koch at the PayneWest Insurance Network Builder in Scottsdale, Arizona. Harju was selected as PayneWest’s Professional of the Year and Koch received the Chairman’s Award. Harju is a commercial insurance customer service director and Koch is the managing director of customer service in Spokane.

Dean Davis, a local photographer, will be featured in the 2015 Communication Arts Photography Annual, a professional journal for visual communications. Davis was one of 157 entries chosen out of 4,421 submissions worldwide.

Ziegler Lumber Co. has announced that Monte Anderson, dual manager of product purchasing and shop services, will retire after 45 years with the company. In addition, Jim Wells has been named the supervising manager of the purchasing department.

The Association of Washington Business named local recipients of the Environmental Excellence Awards and the Leadership and Service Awards as follows: IEDS Logistics, Resource Conservation/Pollution Prevention; Avista Utilities, Leading Environmental Practices; former U.S. Rep. Doc Hastings, C. David Gordon Award; Catherine Brazil, Judy Coovert Award.
