Obituary: Moore, Kenneth Edward

Age 90

MOORE, Kenneth Edward 1925 - 2015 Kenneth was born in Spokane, Washington on January 17, 1925.

He was selected as first Baby Spokane on February 3, 1926, holding the title of “most attractive baby in Spokane County” for the entire year.

He lived in Spokane all his life, growing up on a dairy farm and graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1943.

He served in the United States Army during World War II from 1943 to 1946, with tours in both the European and Pacific theaters.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, he graduated from Whitworth College with a degree in education.

He married the love of his life, Carol Louise Nyborg on August 12, 1950.

She preceded him in death in 2013.

Ken and Carol were longtime members of Grace Lutheran Church and later Zion Lutheran Church.

He served as a choir director for over 70 years, beginning at age 17 and worked side by side with Carol, who served as the organist for over 50 years.

He loved music and was blessed with a marvelous singing voice and talent for playing piano, organ and other instruments.

After graduation from Whitworth, he worked as a math teacher at North Central High School for three years and West Valley High School for 35 years, retiring in 1990.

During his tenure at West Valley, he also served as ticket manager, developed and managed the school store and coached the High School Bowl, Knowledge Bowl and math teams.

While he “officially” retired in 1990, he continued as the school ticket manager and Knowledge Bowl coordinator for a total of 48 years of service to West Valley.

Kenneth was a man of integrity, honor and devotion to his Lord.

He also had a steadfast dedication to his family, school, community and country.

He was intensely proud of the legacy he and Carol created with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was an avid sports fan, supporting the West Valley Eagles, Mariners, Seahawks and Washington State Cougars.

Kenneth went to be with his Lord and his beloved wife on Wednesday, May 13, 2015.

Kenneth is survived by his seven children, Pam Clark, Karen Wallace, David Moore (Gerri), Dan Moore (Kaye), John Moore (Karen), Scott Moore (Lisa), Kevin Moore (Mary Ellen); 16 grandchildren, Tom Clark, Kristen Anderson, Michael Clark, Geoffrey Wallace, Jeremy Wallace, Miranda Moore, Whitney Moore, Jamie Moore, Riley Moore, Ryan Moore, Gavin Moore, Hailey Moore, Cameron Moore, Adam Moore, Emily Moore, Allison Moore; eight great-grandchildren, Cooper, Kylie, Camden, Hunter, Makayla, Mackenzie, Tristan and Taylor; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Kenneth worked as manager at Camp Lutherhaven for ten summers from 1962-1972.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will be Monday, May 25, 2015 at 2:00 pm at Zion Lutheran Church, 8304 East Buckeye, Spokane, WA 99212.
