Walkout is weak message

As an observer of K-12 teaching and learning for over 40 years, and an adjunct instructor for over 20 years, I have seen brilliant educators help students understand that complex issues need to be solved using the skills of communication, collaboration, creative thinking and problem-solving.

The recent action by the Spokane Education Association and other area “EAs” to stage walkouts in order to send a message to the Washington Legislature shows a complete lack of leadership and understanding of this process.

By walking out, you are acting like the playground bully. Shame on the SEA leadership for not being better communicators, collaborators, creative thinkers and problem-solvers on behalf of their membership, K-12 students, parents and community.
