Whitworth’s Wright NCAA national champion

Kerry Wright won the women’s javelin title and the Whitworth women tied for 13th place – their highest finish – at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York.

Wright’s toss measured 155 feet, 4 inches, more than 6 feet farther than the second-place finisher and a little more than 2 feet short of her school record.

Dakota Kliamovich and Courtney Fairhart also earned All-America status for Whitworth. Kliamovich was fifth in the hammer throw and Fairhart seventh in the discus.

Chase Wright led the Whitworth men to 19th place. He took third in the javelin at 213-3. Tyler Coopman’s toss of 198-6 was good for eighth place.
