Dog dies in fire despite efforts to save it

Spokane Valley Fire Department firefighters did CPR on a dog rescued from the flames of a house fire Monday afternoon, but the dog died despite their efforts. The fire at 11524 E. Broadway was called in just after noon. When firefighters arrived smoke was pouring from the house and flames were coming out of several basement windows, said Capt. Jeff Bordwell. Three people and three pets made it out of the house unharmed, but firefighters were told that one dog remained inside. “It wasn’t where they told us it was, but we found it,” Bordwell said. Firefighters were unable to revive the animal. The basement of the home was heavily damaged and Bordwell said the floor of the main level was heavily charred. The Red Cross is assisting the family and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
