Gunman sought in fatal Spokane shooting

Spokane police are looking for the person who shot and killed a man at a North Monroe Street head shop Tuesday morning.

Authorities arrived at Northwest Accessories, 3400 N. Monroe St., shortly after midnight Tuesday on reports of a shooting. Officers pulled over a vehicle leaving the business with a man inside who had been shot, police said in a news release. Officers attempted to give him medical aid, but he died at the scene, according to police.

Police believe the man was shot inside the store, which opened in 2013. Northwest Accessories is listed as a tattoo parlor, apparel store and tobacco shop, with smoking accessories advertised on its Facebook page. State business records say it is owned by Ruben Flores.

The Medical Examiner’s Office was scheduled to perform an autopsy. The victim’s identity had not been released as of late Tuesday.

Two people who were in the car with the victim when he died were questioned and released, Spokane police said in a news release.

The shooter is described as a black man, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a thin build and short, curly hair. He was last seen wearing a gray shirt. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233.

The shooting is Spokane’s fifth reported homicide this year, according to Spokesman-Review records. All other homicides have at least one suspect in custody. Five homicides were reported over the same period in 2014, and 10 in 2013.
