Obituary: Hayes, Dixie Lee (Larsen)

Age 81

HAYES, Dixie Lee (Larsen) (Age 81) Passed away in Spokane, WA on May 17, 2015.

She was born May 15, 1934 in Canton City, CO to Lars Eric Larsen and Dolly Esther Knox.

Dixie completed most of her schooling in the Seattle area.

There she worked for Boeing Aerospace and gave birth to her three boy’s.

In July of 1969 she and her boys along her then husband Carl Hayes and stepson Johnnie Lee Hayes moved to Clayton, WA, living on 80 acres they farmed as a family.

Dixie was a hard working woman up to the very end.

She worked for the Deer Park post office, Pacific Trail, Sylvan Furniture, Kaiser and most recently the Ugly Duck.

Dixie was an avid bowler in her younger years, winning many awards and trophies.

She enjoyed playing golf and darts, all of which she excelled in!

She was an amazing lady with a huge heart and a quick wit, all of which will be deeply missed by her numerous friends and family!

She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary #1474, lifetime member of the VFW and a lifetime member of the Spokane Eagles, as well as a lifetime member of the Deer park VFW and Eagles.

She is survived by children Anthony and Leigh Yates, Mark and Melodie Yates, Johnnie Lee Hayes (stepson); grandkids Sarah Yates Monnastes and Ryan, Katie Yates and Brandon Eller, Christopher and Liz Graf, Max Yates, Landis Yates and Gracie Yates, and seven beautiful great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and eldest son, Christopher Coito.

A gathering celebrating Dixie’s life at 1 pm on May 30th, 2015 at Hillyard VFW #1474, 2902 E. Diamond, Spokane, WA 99217.

In lieu of flowers, Dixie asks that donations are made to Spokane Humane Society or the Hillyard VFW Post #1474.
