Obituary: Lashaw, Emery “Bud”

Age 95

LaSHAW, Emery “Bud” Was born December 6, 1919 on the family farm near Rockford, WA to Joe and Clara (Hagen) LaShaw.

He passed away May 22, 2015.

Emery was the second of four children in his family and grew up working alongside his father, brothers and sister on the farm.

He graduated from Rockford High School in 1938.

In August, 1946 he married Lois Norman; Emery was Lois’ devoted partner for nearly 70 years.

Emery was a lifelong farmer who worked for a time at Spokane Seed and also set up farm equipment for J.

Red Saunders.

Emery loved his flower garden and grew beautiful roses, dahlias and gladiolas.

He was a talented gardener who was always generous in sharing the vegetables he grew, as well as the wonderful fudge he made at Christmas time.

Emery enjoyed traveling with Lois in their RV, and they spent several winters in Arizona where they made many special friends.

Family was important to Emery, and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Emery always looked younger than his age, and he enjoyed people’s disbelief that he really was 95 years old!

Emery had a wonderful smile and laugh; he was accepting and welcoming, and made friends quickly.

Emery was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Clara LaShaw; brothers Howard and Donald (Pat) LaShaw; sister Lois Hoover; daughter Bonnie Newton; and grandson Brian Comer.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Fairfield, WA; son Duane (Sylvia) LaShaw of Freeman, WA; and son Dick (Patti) LaShaw of Rockford.

Emery is also survived by six grandchildren: Tami LaShaw Stubbs, LaCrosse, WA; Mark LaShaw; Rockford; Tina Bishop, Rockford; Brenda Miller, Phoenix, AZ; Tricia Poitevint, Spokane; and Teresa Faulkner, Seattle; as well as 21 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family is grateful to neighbors Mike and Donna Messinger for their thoughtfulness and help, Dick and Patti LaShaw for sharing their home and providing loving care to Emery, and to Hospice of Spokane for their compassion during Emery’s last days.

Funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rockford, WA with Fr.

Curtis Seidel officiating.

Burial will follow the funeral mass at Fairview Cemetery, Rockford.

The family suggests memorials in Emery’s honor be made to Fairview Cemetery or Hospice of Spokane.
