In brief: Seniors face deadline for free produce program

SPOKANE COUNTY – Eligible seniors have until Friday to apply for $40 in checks to use for fresh produce at Spokane County farmers markets thanks to a program through Catholic Charities Spokane Food for All and Aging and Long Term Care of Eastern Washington.

The Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program will distribute the checks through a random drawing in June.

Recipients must be Washington residents who are 60 or older (55 or older for American Indians/Alaska Natives). Their income must be below 185 percent of the federal poverty level.

That’s $21,775 annually or $1,815 monthly income for one person. Or $29,471 annually or $2,456 monthly income for two people. For larger households, add $642 per month for each additional person.

Download an application at www.altcew.org/2014-senior- farmers-market-nutrition- program/.

All applications postmarked by May 29 that meet eligibility requirements will be included in the drawing.

For more information, contact Catholic Charities Food For All at (509) 459-6163 or email Jesse Hansen at jhansen@ccspokane.org.
