AmeriCorps VISTA – The organization seeks volunteers to fill five summer AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteer in Service to America) associate positions from June 15 to Aug. 14. Associates will work with a community partner to develop, implement and evaluate literacy, math and other activities for youth not enrolled in other summer programs. Catholic Charities - Drivers are needed to deliver “brown bags” to those in need of meals who are unable to obtain food themselves. Volunteers must pass a WSP background check, have a valid driver’s license and a vehicle to use for food deliveries and be able to lift and carry bags weighing 8 to 10 pounds. Communities In Schools - Volunteers are needed to help site coordinators at Shaw Middle School and/or Sheridan Elementary School. Volunteers will be asked to commit to a minimum of four hours per week to help with paperwork, student programs, chaperoning students during/between classes, lunch times, recess times and tutoring. Second Harvest Inland Northwest - Second Harvest is in need of volunteers to help sort and pack produce, food drive or bulk food items in preparation for delivery to the food bank’s emergency food outlets. Serve Spokane - Volunteers are needed for the Food Pantry. Duties may include filling bags with food, greeting visitors in the lobby, restocking shelves or pushing shopping carts out to the parking lot. Spokane AIDS Network - Volunteers are needed to unload and pack grocery bags for approximately 65 local HIV positive residents. Delivery drivers are also needed to deliver the groceries to their homes. Grocery assistants must be able to lift and carry about 40 pounds and stand for up to two hours. Drivers will have to use their own car. A background check is required. Spokane Valley Partners - Three volunteer drivers are needed to transport food donations to the Spokane Valley Partners Food Bank warehouse. Shifts vary Monday through Friday from morning to afternoon. Truck access is preferable and a previous or current commercial driver’s license is encouraged. SpokAnimal CARE - Volunteers who are at least 15 years old are needed to help maintain a healthy and sanitary environment for SpokAnimal’s cats. St. Anne’s Children and Family Center - Kitchen and meal assistant volunteers are needed 3-5/week, from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., to serve breakfast, lunch and a snack each day at St. Anne’s. Volunteers will prepare meal carts for classrooms, and also deliver carts, clean up after meals and help prepare for the upcoming day. People interested in volunteering must be 18 years or older, able to lift 20-25 pounds, have a current Food Worker Card (cards can be obtained at www.srhd.org), pass a background check and be fingerprinted by the Department of Early Learning, and have a TB skin test.
