Fund Mt. Spokane’s needs

Now that the Washington Legislature is into yet another special session, it should be sure to fund Mt. Spokane’s facilities request in its budget for the next biennium. It’s a small price to pay for the big returns received by those of us who live here.

The May 16 op-ed by a local teacher talked about how Mt. Spokane benefits students. While I agree, I’d like to also suggest that it is so much more. Mt. Spokane is the state’s largest park. It serves the entire region with year-around accessible, affordable recreation. It serves a variety of people through programs and services, and it generates economic impact through jobs.

Budget support for Mt. Spokane will benefit more than teachers and students who live here. It will benefit everyone who calls the Spokane region home.
