U.S. Highway 195 rebuild finishes up

Work to repair the concrete pavement panels on U.S. Highway 195 in the Spokane area is finishing up and drivers can return to the normal speed limit in the construction zone.

A contractor is completing the last pieces of the project, which has involved repairing concrete panels and replacing broken ones in the southbound lanes from Interstate 90 to Excelsior Road.

During the work, concrete barriers were placed on the lanes to restrict traffic. The speed limit was reduced to 45 mph. The normal limit of 55 mph has been restored.

The $6.5 million project is the work of William Winkler Co., of Spokane.

The result will be a smoother driving surface that will be more durable.

In northwest Spokane, work continues on a stormwater tank and other stormwater facilities near Downriver Golf Course and on Northwest Boulevard.

Paving is expected in two weeks to finish work near the golf course along Columbia Circle and adjoining streets.

But on Northwest Boulevard, work on a stormwater tank may not be completed until the end of this month. Traffic will continue to be detoured.

In southeast Spokane, paving on Ray Street from 17th to 29th avenues starts Tuesday with northbound lanes undergoing a detour at 8 a.m.

As part of the project, Thor Street is closed from 26th to 29th avenues for all but local traffic.

Traffic islands will be installed after paving is completed.

In east Spokane, paving work is planned on Hartson Avenue from Altamont to Fiske streets starting Tuesday.

I-90 overpass almost done

Elsewhere in the region, work is near completion on the new Greensferry Road overpass over I-90 on the east side of Post Falls.

Final paving is underway. Light poles and a water line are still being installed.

A dedication ceremony for the project is planned for Nov. 12 at 11 a.m. at the overpass.

The project, which began last fall, places an overpass at Greensferry Road to provide a connection to areas north and south of the freeway between Spokane Street and East Seltice Way to the west and state Highway 41 to the east.

The new overpass includes a center turn lane, bicycle lanes and sidewalks. The sidewalks will connect with the Centennial Trail of North Idaho.

Funding for the $17 million project is from the East Post Falls Urban Renewal Agency through local property taxes.

Ralph L. Wadsworth is the main contractor.

Snoqualmie Pass work season ending

Construction on the multiyear project to widen I-90 east of Snoqualmie Pass is nearing an end for this work season.

The Washington state Department of Transportation has scheduled the last two rock-blasting sessions of the season for Wednesday and Thursday at 4 p.m. both days.

The blasting work will force closure of the freeway for about one hour each day in the segment between mileposts 56 and 61 near Keechelus Lake.

Daytime delays are possible in the construction area with pilot vehicles forcing traffic to slow down through the construction zone to give workers a chance to enter the freeway lanes.

Also, work to repaint the Vantage Bridge on I-90 is nearing completion.

Dishman-Mica work will close lane

In Spokane Valley, work on Dishman-Mica Road will result in a southbound lane closure Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Traffic will be controlled by flaggers during work hours.
