Malek backs big government
According to a Oct. 4 article, Rep. Luke Malek is a wonderful conservative legislator who is faster than a speeding bullet and able to leap tall buildings with a single bound.
My take on Malek is slightly different. One of his first votes after his election in 2012 was to unseat the conservative speaker of the House. That was followed closely by his vote to help Gov. Butch Otter establish Obamacare exchanges in Idaho. Two important votes the conservatives disagreed with.
In 2014, he voted against open negotiations with labor unions (H487), and in favor of corporate welfare (H546). In 2015, he voted to make it illegal to be a genetic counselor without a license (S1080), to make it illegal to be a sign language interpreter without a license (H152), and voted for the creation of yet another license board for naturopathic physicians (H181). One of Malek’s last votes was to raise the tax on gasoline, car registration and establish fees for electric and hybrid vehicles (H0312).
Malek’s voting record is more about big government than conservative principles and that is why I do not support him and hold out hope for a strong opponent in 2016.
