College cross country: John Dressel named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year

Mt. Spokane High graduate John Dressel, running for Colorado, was named Pac-12 Conference Freshman of the Year for men’s cross country, the conference announced Wednesday.

Dressel, of Colbert, was the highest freshman finisher at the Pac-12 Championships, placing sixth in 23 minutes, 19.4 seconds.

The event marked Dressel’s second official race of the season.

Dressel will look to help the top-ranked Buffaloes, the two-time defending NCAA champions, in their quest to win the NCAA Mountain Regional on Nov. 13 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
