Volleyball: No. 19 Arizona State tops Washington State

Nikki Attea had 15 kills and Penina Snuka added 42 assists and 23 digs as No. 19 Arizona topped Washington State in a Pac-12 Conference match Friday in Tucson, Arizona. Scores were 25-14, 27-29, 25-23 and 25-22.

The loss was the Cougars’ sixth straight. The win gave the Wildcats (16-9, 6-7) a season sweep of Washington State.

WSU’s Kyra Holt had season-highs of 22 kills and 17 digs and Haley MacDonald added 39 assists and 17 digs.

The Cougars (14-11, 3-10) play Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona, on Sunday.

No. 3 Washington sweeps No. 20 Arizona State

Courtney Schwan and Tia Scambray had 10 kills apiece and No. 3 Washington swept No. 20 Arizona State (17-7, 6-7) in a Pac-12 Conference match in Tempe, Arizona. Scores were 25-17, 25-22 and 25-10.

The Huskies (21-2, 11-2) play Arizona in Tucson on Sunday.

Pirates fall in five to Willamette

Willamette scored the final five points of the fifth set and beat Whitworth in a Northwest Conference match in Salem, Oregon. Scores were 22-25, 25-21, 25-21, 16-25 and 16-14.

Cassandra Mendoza had 17 kills and Nicole Leonard added 15 kills and 19 digs for the Pirates (18-7, 12-3). Sarah Fincher had 21 kills and Alexa Dowdell had 17 kills and 21 digs for the Bearcats (14-9, 10-5).

Whitworth closes out the regular season against Lewis & Clark Saturday in Portland. A win gives the Pirates the NWC title.

Cardinals advance at SWAC tournament

Brenna Meehan had 15 kills and 25 digs and North Idaho beat Eastern Utah (12-18) in a Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament first-round match in Twin Falls, Idaho. Scores were 25-15, 25-18, 23-25 and 25-18.

Penny Gwynn added 15 kills and 14 digs and Brittany Gay chipped in 49 assists and 15 digs for the Cardinals (19-13), who will play Salt Lake today in the semifinals.
