Bills place WR Harvin on IR

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Buffalo Bills placed wide receiver Percy Harvin on the season-ending injured reserve and activated cornerback Leodis McKelvin on Saturday.

Harvin missed the past two games and been bothered by nagging hip and knee injuries since training camp.

McKelvin was placed on the reserve/non-football-injury list in July with a broken right foot. He returned to practice Oct. 21.

The Bills (3-4) host the Miami Dolphins (3-4) on Sunday.

This is the latest setback in what has been an up-and-down career for Harvin, who was selected in the first round of the 2009 draft by Minnesota. The Bills were Harvin’s third team in two seasons after he was traded last year by Seattle to the New York Jets.

Buffalo signed Harvin to a three-year contract last spring, though the team has the option to pick up each of the final two years of the deal. He had 19 receptions for 218 yards and a touchdown in the first five games.

McKelvin finally gets his long-awaited chance to return after he broke his right foot in a 22-9 loss to Miami last Nov. 13.

After missing much of the Bills’ offseason minicamps, McKelvin aggravated the injury and required a follow-up operation before the start of training camp.

McKelvin is expected to return kicks and take over a backup role at cornerback behind starters Stephon Gilmore and rookie Ronald Darby. There’s also a chance he will see time at safety, with starter Aaron Williams sidelined by a neck injury.
