MOSCOW, Idaho – Dezmon Epps has been dismissed from the University of Idaho football team, the athletic department confirmed in a statement on Monday.

Idaho coach Paul Petrino first confirmed the news during his Sun Belt Conference call earlier Monday morning.

Epps was suspended indefinitely from the team after he allegedly punched his girlfriend outside of Stubblefield’s nightclub in Pullman in the early morning hours of Oct. 25. Fourth-degree assault charges were forwarded to the Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office but eventually dropped.

Petrino said during the Sun Belt call that Epps violated conditions set forth for him from disciplinary action for an incident earlier in the year.

“When things happened with Dezmon early in the year he had some very strict restrictions on what he could do and couldn’t do,” Petrino said. “One of those things that we talked about he was not able to do was go out. He was out that night, so as of right now he will not be joining the team.”

Epps was suspended for Idaho’s Sep. 12 trip to USC after being caught on video shoplifting from the campus bookstore on Aug. 16. He was dismissed from the program prior to the 2014 season after being arrested for allegedly shoplifting from WinCo.

Epps is Idaho’s leading receiver with 61 catches for 762 yards. Idaho (3-6, 2-4 Sun Belt) has been without the senior during its last two games, losses at New Mexico State and South Alabama. Although, the offense put up 48 and 45 points, respectively, in its two conference games without him.

Idaho plays host to Appalachian State on Saturday.
