Gonzaga signs Zach Collins, Killian Tillie to letters of intent

Two members of Gonzaga’s 2016 recruiting class officially signed Wednesday.

Zach Collins, a 7-foot center from Las Vegas, and Killian Tillie, a forward from France, followed up their oral commitments with letters of intent. Zach Norvell, a 6-5 shooting guard from Chicago, is expected to sign next week.

Collins is rated 57th on ESPN.com’s Top 100. The Bishop Gorman High product averaged nine points and seven rebounds last season in a crowded frontcourt that included McDonald’s All-Americans Stephen Zimmerman (now at UNLV) and Chase Jeter (Duke).

Collins averaged 18 points and 15 rebounds on the AAU circuit, prompting his rise up many recruiting rankings. He had more than 30 scholarship offers and picked Gonzaga over finalists Utah and San Diego State.

“Zach is the type of guy that can play multiple positions in the frontcourt,” coach Mark Few said. “I think he’ll remind people of Domantas (Sabonis) and Kelly (Olynyk). He’s really a combo of those two with his physicality and how well he moves.”

The 6-8, 200-pound Tillie is part of France’s INSEP program, a training center for the country’s elite young athletes. He averaged 14.3 points and 9.7 rebounds in helping France win the FIBA 2014 European championships.

“Killian is a dynamic athlete that will end up being a very good face-up type ‘4,’ ” Few said. “Once we get him in the weight room and work on his strength, he’ll be a very good player at the highest level.”

Tillie’s family includes dad Laurent, who played on the French national volleyball team in two Olympics; mom Caroline, who played for Netherlands national volleyball team; brother Kevin, who plays on the French national volleyball team coached by Laurent; and brother Kim, a former Utah Utes basketball player who plays professionally overseas.
