Feedback: Remembering the Pine Shed restaurant

The Pine Shed, pictured in 1991, was a fixture on Division Street for many years.

When we posted a 1955 photo of the Pine Shed restaurant (formerly at Division Street and Nora Avenue) on our Facebook page, it attracted numerous memories. Here are a few of the 300-plus comments.

Juli Winger

My parents used to drive there from Colville for dinner and dancing in the ’50s. Big time in the big city.

David Noble

Oh boy did we have a lot of good times in this place.

Robert Daneri

Sad to see what that block looks like now. All that is left is One Bridge North. Ichabod’s is gone too. I miss Ichabod’s North.

Chuck Smith

The Slime Shed lol, I remember watching my brother sing in his band Inside Out, great times.

Mark Alan

Menopause Manor

Dave Vanwinkle

I worked there.

Lynette Bishop

YES! Danced there and actually ate there too! Years ago!

Gregory Green

I do remember and yet my story was a sad one. I was playing semi pro football for the Spokane Fury and we had a captain’s meeting there, some of our team captains were black and we were asked to leave. Never went back!

Mary Machart-Rua

I think most people who went to the Pine Shed have fuzzy memories of going there.

Becky Houck Sears

My mom and dad always took me there when we came to Spokane in the ’60s and ’70s.

Debby Winham

That’s where I spent my 21st birthday! Lol

Floris Herres

Haven’t been there since 1997, but always a good meal and drink at a fair price and wonderful service. We’d always stop in when we were visiting Spokane.

Carolyn J. Griffin

My ex and I owned Papermill Printing, across Indiana, and it was way too easy to go there after work. It was also where my big brother took me for my first legal drink.

Read Wilkening

When I was just 9 years old my grandfather Bob would treat me to breakfast every Saturday. I remember buying cigarettes for him from the pull vending machine.

Debbie Moore

Held my wedding reception there, 1975.

Timothy Bush

Before it was the Pine Shed it was a drug store. I used to buy Mad Magazine and read while waiting at the bus stop in front.

Kellie Marie Plumlee

Oh, my mom worked there and I had my first Shirley Temple there!

Bob Sanchez

Sure do! Was an excellent place to have group dinners after any special occasion. I miss this place for great food!

Rusty Price

Shedheads

Lori Toennis Port

I have a black and white picture of my mom working the counter. It looks like an old Humphrey Bogart movie set with the chrome napkin holders and salt and pepper shakers.

Craig Withrow

My first job as a dishwasher

Laura Schur Desmul

Omg! Back in the ’70s my best friend and I went dancing there all the time. We called it the meat market.

Linda de Armon

My next door neighbors owned it. I babysat their 3 kids. Used to eat there a lot on Friday night pay days … they had an awesome chef salad for like $2.99.

Michael Howe

Played poker there before it was such an acceptable mainstream activity. It was rough back in those days, but was an adventure.

Eileen Goodwin

This was our restaurant off campus when Dick and I were dating. Coffee was cheap.
