Division and Main set for pedestrian upgrades in downtown Spokane gateway project

The city of Spokane will begin work on the next stage of its Division Street Gateway project next spring by creating a more pedestrian-friendly intersection at Division and Main Avenue.

A low bid for the work was approved Monday by the Spokane City Council, and it went to Arc Electric and Lighting Corp. for $442,359. Curb extensions, or bump-outs, will be built at all four corners and will include landscaping. Stormwater infrastructure work also will be done at the site.

The first element of the gateway project was completed earlier this year at the Division street exits from Interstate 90. The redesign of the large traffic triangle just east of the Spokane Convention Center at Division and Spokane Falls Boulevard is not officially part of the city’s project, but it was done in conjunction with the work, which will remake all of Division from I-90 to the river in coming years.
