Hayden woman wins sandwich contest – again

For the second year in a row, a Hayden home cook is a winner in the Oroweat Bread America’s Better Sandwich contest.

Edwina Gadsby won $5,000 in the contest again this year. She took first place in the Creative Classics category for her Thai Sweet Chili Chicken Sandwich. Her Asian Barbecue Pulled Chicken Sandwich with Slaw won the same category last year.

A retired accountant, Gadsby regularly enters cooking contests.

Spiceologist opens shop

This Spokane-based spice company has opened its own retail location in downtown Spokane.

Spiceologist sells spices, herbs and rubs as well as kitchen accessories such as its own Spiceologist block, which features cork-stopped glass test tubes for herb and spice storage.

Spiceologist was founded in 2013 by chef Peter Taylor and food blogger Heather Scholten. Their new shop opened in early November. It’s located at 125 S. Cowley St.

Market moves indoors

The Thursday Market in the South Perry District has moved inside for winter.

The indoor market takes place from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursdays through December

Vendors include Common Crumb Artisan Bakery, Flora Yogurt Co., Thunder’s Catch Seafood, Mama Torrez Salsa, Harmony Coffee and Tea and Petunias Handmade Preserves.

The indoor winter market is located in the Bhuddio Yoga Studio, 915 S. Perry St. On the Web: thursdaymarket.org.
