Obituary: Van Cleef, Harold “Buck”

VAN CLEEF, Harold “Buck” Harold “Buck” Van Cleef was born on August 21, 1927 in Salem, Oregon.

The third of six children, Buck joined the Navy at age 17 and served throughout WWII.

He returned home to Sunnyside, WA to finish his schooling and met his wife of 56 years, Alice Beyers.

Buck began working at Bonneville Power Administration in 1948, and together he and Alice relocated several times around the Northwest, finally settling in Spokane in 1952.

Buck retired from Bonneville after 41 successful years.

Buck earned his black belt in karate at age 58 and was a lifelong fisherman.

He enjoyed Saturday morning fishing trips followed by a breakfast that always included biscuits and gravy.

Buck is survived by his three children, Mike (DeeDee) Van Cleef, Gary Van Cleef, and Jan (Mike) O’Neil; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and an older sister, Mary.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernhardt and Mary; his wife of 56 years, Alice; three brothers, Robert, Glen and Ken; a sister, Irene and a grandson, Mark.

He will truly be missed by those who loved him.

A Memorial Mass will take place on Friday, November 20, 2015 at 10:00am at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, 3624 W. Indian Trail Rd., Spokane, WA.
