Holiday runneth over

Dear Starbucks, try these colors for the cups: Red: Santa and Happy Holiday. Green: Winter Solstice. Gold: Jewish Hanukkah menorah. Blue: Christians, royalty of Jesus. Multi-color: Kwanzaa. Silver: Other, or those who are just fed up with this whole silly controversy.

This cup can make a bold in-your-face affirmation of my belief, which is considerably diminished because it is obscured by the sleeve and my hand, and is used about 15 minutes and thrown in the trash.

As for we Christians, Advent is the season of preparation that precedes Christmas on Dec. 25. Christmas season is Christmas Day until Jan. 6, the feast of the Three Kings (the Twelve Days of Christmas). So if we are purists, there are no Christmas decorations, no Christmas carols and no Christmas parties until then.

Holiday parties and winter concerts may abound in December but strictly speaking they are not Christmas functions. So you shouldn’t be using red cups anyway.

I’d like to say what I really think about this controversy but it would be edited, and I know for sure that it is unChristian. Peace on Earth to all men of good will.
