Sports letters to the editor

Griz rule

To the gentleman who sarcastically told my wife to “go home” at the rest area between Superior and Alberton (Montana) on the way to the game when she said “Go Griz” in a sporting manner, we did go home to Coeur d’Alene following the game and it was amazing to see all of the Eagle feathers along I-90 from the mauling by the Grizzlies!

Seahawks by the numbers

I was fooled as well. Fooled once again into thinking that the Seahawks had maybe finally turned the corner and, as some on ESPN and other broadcasts suggested in 2013, that this team had the makings of a “dynasty.”

As a Seahawk “lifer” (I have been a fan since their inception 39 years ago) I finally went to the Internet, did some research, and got back to reality by discovering the following from pro-football- reference.com:

1) If the Seahawks would have figured out a way to gain a yard and win against the Patriots last year their all-time win-loss record would have been 306-306. Instead they fell to 305-307. They are now 309-312 all time.

2) The Seahawks have had 355 of the 621 games they have played where about 51 percent of the 355 were losses from blown leads of varied point totals. That leaves about 49 percent of the 355 where the Seahawks came back from deficits of various point totals.

Mediocrity is what this team’s history has shown, and last year’s Super Bowl ending was not about a questionable play call – it was apparently about fate that this year has become a sad reality.
