Sophomore forward Domantas Sabonis was named the WCC player of the week after a pair of impressive performances in two Gonzaga wins, league officials announced Monday.

The Kaunas, Lithuania, native put together an ultra-efficient week in averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while making 19-of-23 field goals. In a 91-52 win over Northern Arizona, the sophomore forward scored a career-high 26 points on 12-of-13 shooting, while pulling down seven rebounds (four offensive) and adding one block.

Three days later in a 101-56 win over Mount St. Mary’s, Sabonis made 7-of-10 shots to score 15 points and set another career-high in pulling down 14 rebounds.

Gonzaga (2-0) is in the Bahamas this week at the Battle 4 Atlantis, and will play Washington in the first round on Wednesday at 9 a.m. Pacific time. The Spokesman-Review’s Jim Meehan is at the tournament. The game will be televised on ESPN.
