Katelyn Dillon is a Seahawks fan – probably more so this week than ever before.

The Liberty High sophomore was selected the Week 9 CenturyLink High School Athlete of the Week by the Seahawks. She was invited to Sunday’s game, where she was invited onto the field and introduced to the stadium.

“We got to go down on the field while they were warming up,” she said. “We didn’t get to meet any of the players because of security, But we were close to them!”

Dillon was nominated by her mother, who entered her name online.

“It’s an interesting competition,” Dillon said. “They take a lot of things into account, not just sports.”

And Dillon has a lot going on besides being the captain of the Liberty JV volleyball team. She carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average taking pre-AP and Honors classes, and works hard trying to make people’s lives better.

She works with Project Eliminate, a program that looks to eliminate deficiencies in newborn babies and she’s working on her second toy drive for childhood cancer patients at Sacred Heart Hospital.

All of those projects were cited by the Seahawks.

When the Seahawks made her their selection for the Week 9 home game with San Francisco, the team and CenturyLink contacted the family by email.

“They talked to my parents and then they came in person to my school and made a big presentation,” Dillon said. “My classmates were very happy for me. Along with tickets to the game they awarded a cash prize to my school. The school got a check for $1,200 for the ASB fund. They were very excited about that.

“We had about two weeks notice. The Seahawks talked to my parents and made sure we could get to the game. We drove over for the game.”

Dillon said she had never seen a Seahawks football game in person, and getting VIP treatment for her first game made it an exceptional experience.

“The only thing that disappointed me was that I really wanted to meet Russell Wilson,” Dillon said. “But I guess everyone wants to meet Russell Wilson.”
