Obituary: Moen, Gladys Louise
Gladys was born in Livingston, Montana, on August 7, 1929 to Alvy and Alta Davis.
She moved with her family to Bremerton, Washington, where she completed her schooling.
She married Gordon Moen in 1949.
They were married for 66 years.
In 1951 they moved to the Tri-Cities, eventually living in all three cities.
Gladys was a devoted wife and mother.
She passed on her strong work ethic and determination to her children.
She loved to entertain guests and cook for a crowd.
She was a master seamstress and worked for The Yard Stick, a fabric store in Kennewick.
Later, Gladys also worked for Pischell Yearbooks and Consolidated Freightways as Office Manager.
She retired in 1988.
Gladys donated a great deal of time to her church, serving as Sunday School Superintendent for many years at Lutheran Church of the Master in Pasco.
She was also active in P.E.O.
She and Gordon loved Central Oregon and spent many happy weeks at their condo at Eagle Crest in Redmond, often hosting their entire family.
Gladys’ grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the joys of her life.
She spoiled them whenever she could, and loved them all unconditionally.
They knew they were special when they were around Grandma Gladys.
She and Gordon moved to Spokane in 2002.
Gladys transferred her membership to P.E.O.
Chapter DR in the Spokane Valley.
At age 80, Gladys discovered quilting and sewed a unique hand-made quilt for every one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gladys was preceded in death by her father Alvy, her mother Alta, and her sister Betty.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Gordon of Spokane Valley; daughters Cindy (Kim) Bishop of Spokane Valley and Christy (David) Thorp of Westerville, Ohio; son Steven (Cathy) Moen of Kennewick; grandchildren Brandon (Lisa) Bishop of Puyallup, Washington, Erik Bishop of Spokane Valley, Washington, Rachel and Hannah Thorp of Westerville, Ohio, Nicole Satterwhite of Springfield, Oregon, and Kyle Moen of Kennewick; great-grandchildren Emily and Katie Bishop, Taylor and Greyson Satterwhite; and nieces Carol (Mike) Fielding of Tucson, Arizona and Karen Walsh of Pennsylvania.
Special thanks to Dr. Dean Hill, her cardiologist, Teresa Poole, office nurse and staff for their compassionate care, and the firefighters and first responders from Spokane Valley Fire Department Station 8 whose quick response and courteous treatment are much appreciated.
A memorial service for Gladys will he held on December 6th, 2015 at 1pm at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Rd., Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
