WSP identifies injured pedestrian

The Washington State Patrol has identified the man who was hit at Trent Avenue and Pines Road in Spokane Valley on Tuesday evening.

Evan Merkel, 24, was hit by a Ford Taurus after stepping into traffic. Merkel was intoxicated, said Washington State Patrol Trooper Jeff Sevigny. Merkel is in serious condition at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center.

When the WSP responded to the intersection just after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, they didn’t know who the man was. However, he was identified after WSP asked for the public’s help.
