Goodman wrong on refugees
Amy Goodman’s Nov. 20 column has serious flaws, both in information quality and logic. The unwillingness of the European countries to accept the flow of refugees from the Middle East and Africa (not just Syria) is primarily due to the volume of immigrants, which Europe simply cannot accommodate.
Another actor in the European experience with many Muslim immigrants is they will not assimilate: Honor murders and burkas are not exactly something gaining much popularity. Poland will not take in Syrian refugees? Must be right-wing xenophobia the reason, right? How many refugees has Saudi Arabia taken?
The solution is not to accept more refugees, but to make sure that Middle East becomes more stable, that the wars finally end, and people can live where they live now. We as a country along with our proxies created the problem. We are obliged to support peaceful solutions. For this, of course, Seattle does not have to be flooded with burkas.
