Kyle Wiltjer named WCC player of the week; Spokane arena team signs two offensive linemen

Senior forward Kyle Wiltjer was named the WCC player of the week after an all-tournament performance at the Battle 4 Atlantis, league officials announced Monday.

Wiltjer shared this week’s award with Kyle Collinsworth of BYU. Wiltjer is the second straight Zag to receive the honor after Domantas Sabonis was named the WCC Player of the Week last week.

Wiltjer led Gonzaga to a 2-1 record at the Battle 4 Atlantis, including a victory over then-No. 18 UConn. He earned B4A All-Tournament honors, averaging 19.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game, while shooting .500 from the field (21-for-42). He opened the tournament with a 24-point, 11-rebound double-double in a win over Washington. In the second game against No. 25 Texas A&M, Wiltjer knocked down four threes en route to 18 points and seven rebounds. Then in the UConn win, he knocked down three treys to total 17 points.

— University of Washington senior Andrew Andrews has been named the Pac-12 player of the week after averaging 23.7 points and 10 rebounds in three games at the Battle 4 Atlantis last week. The senior posted two double-doubles on the week first opening the tournament with 21 and 10 against No. 10 Gonzaga. He followed that up with 20 points in a rematch against Texas and added six rebounds and five assists.

Arena football

The Spokane IFL franchise has signed a pair of offensive linemen in Jarien Moreland and Kyle Fischer. Fischer (OL, 6-6, 320, Vanderbilt) joins Spokane for his first season as a member of the IFL. Moreland (OL, 6-4, 320, Southern Illinois) returns to Spokane for his first season as a member of the IFL. He began the 2015 AFL season in Spokane before being traded to the Tampa Bay Storm.
