Where is Exxon coverage?
I’m curious about why The Spokesman-Review has ignored breaking news concerning Exxon’s cover-up of its own extensive 1977-1982 climate research confirming dangerous global warming and human responsibility for it, along with the company’s subsequent $30 million campaign that denied its own scientific findings.
Exxon employed some of the same junk scientists and public relations firms formerly used by the tobacco industry to deny smoking’s links to cancer. This hit front pages worldwide over the past week, bringing international condemnation of Exxon and prompting 11 senior American climate scientists and U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse to call for a major racketeering lawsuit against the company and its allies for the huge loss of life and property that will result from this massive public deception; a suit that could easily exceed 1998’s $206 billion judgment against Big Tobacco.
Yet The Spokesman-Review has been quiet on this. The only S-R mention I’ve seen was an offhand reference buried in Sunday’s anti-science screed by conservative pundit Jay Ambrose. You’ve covered Volkswagen’s nasty pollution scam, yet not Exxon’ss vastly larger and more harmful concealment. Why not?
