Prep roundup: East Valley edges West Valley in GNL girls soccer

Skylar Bastin scored twice and East Valley edged West Valley 3-2 on Thursday in a matchup between the top two teams in Greater Northern League girls soccer.

Hannah Burland had the other goal for the Knights (6-3 overall, 5-1 GNL), who are two points ahead of the Eagles (6-3, 5-1).

Frankie Schade and Kiana Nagata scored for the Eagles.

In the 80th minute, West Valley goalkeeper Rachel McGlothlen broke a leg after attempting a save, according to East Valley head coach Gabe Escobar. McGlothlen recorded six saves in the match.

Elsewhere in the GNL, host Clarkston held Cheney to one shot in a 2-0 victory.

Taylen Wohl was assisted by Taylor Bogle in the second minute to put the Bantams (3-2, 2-2) on the scoreboard. Anna Sharp scored off an assist from Kaela Southwick in the 77th.

Cheney is 1-8, 0-6.

• Priest River scored three first-half goals on its way to a 3-0 victory over host St. Maries in an Intermountain League match. Avery Summers, Hannah Brengle and Melissa Krampert scored.

Summer and Rachel Akre added assists.

Volleyball

Abbi Ayer had 12 kills and nine blocks as Clarkston (4-2) defeated visiting Cheney 25-18, 27-29, 25-23, 25-22 to gain a tie atop the Great Northern League standings with the Blackhawks (4-2).

Clarkston won in five sets in the teams’ first meeting this season.

Also in the GNL, host East Valley (3-3) defeated West Valley (0-6) 25-22, 25-19, 25-23. Jordan Phelan had 10 kills for EV. Jaylynn Buehler had 23 assists for West Valley.
