Moses Lake man leads deputies on high speed chase

An 18-year-old man led Grant County Sheriff’s Deputies on a high speed chase for nearly an hour Friday before running inside a home and refusing to come out.

Deputies were called to Stonecrest Road between Ephrata and Moses Lake around 1 p.m. Friday on a report of a suspicious person. They caught up to a stolen red Pontiac, which sped away. The driver, identified as Randy C. James of Moses Lake, drove over rural roads at speeds up to 85 mph, according to a Grant County Sheriff’s Office news release.

James hit a set of spike strips on state Route 28 east of Soap Lake and drove four more miles on flattened tires before abandoning his car in Lakeview. He ran into a home at 137 Quincy Place and refused to come out, the news release said.

James came out of the house once the Moses Lake Regional Tactical Response Team arrived. He was booked into the Grant County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and obstructing a law enforcement officer.
