Obituary: Schumacher, Elston John “Willy”

Age 65

SCHUMACHER, Elston John “Willy” Elston, or as he preferred, “Willy” was 64.99 years old when renal cell carcinoma consumed his life.

He was born on September 13, 1950 to John and Vyolette Schumacher, and died on September 10, 2015 at the Hospice House North.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years Patty, three children Ben, Elisabeth and Joe and his grandchildren: Ben (wife Shawn, child Sage, who shares Grandpa’s birthday); Elisabeth (husband Bryan children Flora, Melody and Graham); Joe (wife Samantha children Isabella and Penelope).

We are grateful for the family and friends who surrounded him with love.

His spirit is carried on in his family and friends.

He loved his family, friends, fast cars, golfing, fishing, hunting and a competitive game of cribbage.

Some of his greatest adventures were when he was fishing or hunting in Alaska, Washington, Idaho, Montana and Canada, where he enjoyed the beauty of nature.

His early years were spent between Shriners Hospital for Children in Spokane and with his parents, brothers (Harvey, Bo, and Ron) and sister (Patty) in Laurel, Montana.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, and then from Eastern Washington State College, with a BA in Professional Accounting.

He went on to own and run KTU, Business Forms Inc., and Liberty Business Forms, with his partners Rick Davidson, Denny Hubble, and Dwayne Hornbeck, respectively.

Willy inspired us to work hard and play hard.

He was motivated by the challenges of business.

Being an accountant he lived by the code of timeliness, accuracy and relevancy.

His generosity, his larger than life persona, his jokes to get people laughing, and those “Willyism” phrases and stories, gave us inspiration and entertained us when we needed them the most.

He gave everybody nicknames whether you liked them or not.

His trademark strong will helped him achieve his lofty goals.

He was a true intellectual whose drive for knowledge and truth kept his mind constantly engaged.

Willy used his earthly body to its fullest potential and his spirit now continues on traveling at the speed of light.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not Perish but have Eternal Life.”

A Willy Elston Schumacher Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 4, 2015 at 3:00pm at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Spokane on 9706 N. Division St., 99218.

We are truly grateful for the care he received from Hospice House North in Spokane and all the kindnesses that have been extended to us.

Donations can be made to Hospice House North at 102 W. Rhoades Ave., Spokane, WA 99208.
