Clements carries South Alabama

Cody Clements passed for 205 yards and two touchdowns, and South Alabama’s defense came away with a needed stop in its 24-18 win over Troy Saturday night in Troy, Alabama.

Troy started its final drive at its own 17, trailing 24-18 with 3:29 remaining. South Alabama’s Akeem Lewis stopped Brandon Burks on fourth-and-1 from Troy’s 43, and the Jaguars were able to run out the clock on the ensuing possession.

Louisiana Tech 43, Louisiana-Lafayette 14: Jeff Driskel completed 20 of 33 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score to lead the Bulldogs over the Ragin’ Cajuns in Ruston, Louisiana.

Appalachian State 31, Wyoming 13: Marcus Cox raced 59 yards for a touchdown on the Mountaineers’ first play from scrimmage, setting the tone for a defeat of the Cowboys in Boone, North Carolina.

Liberty 41, Georgia State 33: Desmond Rice ran for 87 yards and three touchdowns, and D.J. Abnar finished with 88 more yards on the ground to help the Flames to a victory over the Panthers in Atlanta.

New Mexico 38, New Mexico State 29: Teriyon Gipson scored the go-ahead touchdown early in the fourth quarter to cap the Lobos’ come-from-behind victory over the Aggies in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
