Area roundup: Gonzaga freshman wins first women’s golf tournament

Gonzaga freshman Bianca Pagdanganan finished three rounds at 1-over-par 217 on Wednesday to take a one-shot victory at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington.

Pagdanganan held off San Francisco’s Vanessa Ha (218) and Emelie Lundstrom (219) for her first collegiate victory. Pagdanganan, who opened with a 3-under 69 on Monday, shot 75 in her final round.

Pagdanganan double-bogeyed the 12th hole and bogeyed Nos. 16 and 17 before clinching the win with a birdie on the final hole.

The event was her second collegiate tournament after tying for 12th at a tourney in New Mexico in September. It’s the first tourney win for a Bulldogs women’s golfer since Alice Kim won the West Coast Conference championship in April 2014.

GU (910) finished in seventh place at the 13-team tourney, 18 strokes behind champion San Diego State.

Freshman Michelle Kim (2-over 218) tied for eighth and senior Kristin Strankman (219) tied for 10th as Idaho placed third at the Aggie Invitational at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces.

The Vandals (885) finished 26 shots behind champion Brigham Young at the 14-team tournament.

Women’s soccer

Alysha Overland finished with two goals and one assist and Emily Busselman recorded the shutout as Community Colleges of Spokane (9-0-1, 6-0-0 NWAC) registered a 7-0 victory over Yakima Valley (5-4-2, 1-4-1) at Spokane Falls CC.

Sarah Melvin added two goals for the Sasquatch.

Emily Aspen and Megan Lowery scored one minute apart in the first half to lead North Idaho (5-3-2, 3-1-1) to a 4-0 victory over visiting Walla Walla (4-5-2, 3-3-0).

Men’s soccer

Diego Diaz-Sanchez scored at 88 minutes to give host Treasure Valley (6-6-1, 3-4-1 NWAC) a 2-1 win over CC Spokane (6-4-2, 4-3-1) at Ontario, Oregon.

Roberto Esquivel’s goal at 8 minutes for CCS held up until TVCC’s Gerardo Bartolo tied the match in the 72nd minute.

Jose Anguiano finished with two goals and one assist and Emilio Meraz-Rodriguez added one goal and two assists to carry visiting Walla Walla (6-1-5. 4-1-3) to a 5-1 win over North Idaho (5-5-2, 3-3-2).

Volleyball

Treneisha Doyle finished with a match-high 13 kills and Darby Santos added 17 assists and 10 digs as host Lewis-Clark State (11-9) swept Whitworth 25-13, 25-16, 25-23 in nonconference play at Lewiston.

Nicole Leonard had 10 digs and tied Cassandra Mendoza with a team-high eight kills for the Pirates (10-6). Whitworth’s Maddye Dinsmore had 30 assists.

Lianna Sybeldon’s 19 kills led sixth-ranked Washington (14-1, 4-1 Pac-12 Conference) to a 17-25, 25-22, 27-25. 25-17 win over No. 14 Arizona (12-5, 2-3) at Seattle.
