Mild, wet conditions expected over weekend

A strong southwesterly flow carrying subtropical moisture is going to bring a mix of weather for the next several days, but temperatures will stay on the mild side for October.

Mostly cloudy skies are likely today after a warm front moved into the region on Wednesday. Highs should be in the lower 70s with light east wind.

Higher air pressure takes over on Friday, drying out the atmosphere and bringing mostly sunny skies with highs in the middle and upper 70s.

Clouds return Friday night as a large band of moisture from the southwest creeps closer to the Inland Northwest.

Slight chances of rain are possible through the day on Saturday before a more significant rainstorm moves into the region by Saturday night. That storm is partly being fed with moisture from the tropics.

Highest rainfall amounts are expected in the Cascades, northern mountains and mountain areas of North Idaho.

Forecasters said there is some risk that rainstorms could cause mud slides or flooding in fire-ravaged mountain areas.

The Spokane region could see between 0.20 and 0.50 inches of rain by the time the storm exits on Sunday.

Saturday should see highs in the lower 70s with temperatures dropping into the 60s on Sunday.

Lows through the period start out in the 50s and then fall to the 40s Sunday night.

Mild temperatures and a mix of weather conditions with sun, clouds and possible showers continue into early next week.

The Spokane region has yet to see its first frost.

In North Idaho, Coeur d’Alene’s weather should be a few degrees cooler with higher rainfall amounts.

In Sandpoint, high temperatures will be in the 60s with the exception of Friday when a high of 71 is expected.

In Spokane, normal temperatures going into the second week of October are 64 for a high and 40 for a low.
