Women’s soccer roundup: Johnson sends No. 21 WSU past Utah

Kaitlyn Johnson’s ninth-minute header held up, and the 21st-ranked Washington State women’s soccer team clipped Utah 1-0 in a Pac-12 Conference match Friday in Salt Lake City.

It was the 31st straight win for the Cougars when leading at halftime – a school record – and gave WSU 10 wins in 12 matches, the fastest that feat has been accomplished in school history.

Cara Wegner earned the assist after finding room on the right side and sending a cross into the box for Johnson, who scored for the second-straight match.

Utah fell to 5-5-3 overall and 2-2 in conference matches.

Washington State plays Colorado in Boulder, Colorado, on Sunday.

Pacific edges Gonzaga 2-1

Ashley Arnett’s 82nd-minute goal lifted Pacific (2-8-1, 1-2) past Gonzaga 2-1 in a West Coast Conference match in Stockton, California.

Savannah Van Citters staked Gonzaga to a 1-0 lead with a free-kick goal in the 20th minute, but the Tigers’ Alex Hussar evened the score with an unassisted goal in the 51st minute.

The Bulldogs (2-7-4, 1-2) play Saint Mary’s in Moraga, California, on Sunday.

Grizzlies snap Eastern Washington’s eight-match win streak

Allie Lucas scored in the 108th minute and Montana snapped Eastern Washington’s eight-match winning streak with a 2-1 double-overtime win in a Big Sky Conference match in Missoula, Montana.

Dani Morris opened the scoring for the Grizzlies (5-7-2, 2-2-1) in the 17th minute, but Eastern Washington’s Jenny Chavez tied it at 1 with her 33rd-minute goal.

The Eagles (10-2-1, 4-1) host Big Sky foe Northern Arizona next Friday.

Colorado plays to 1-all draw with No. 19 Washington

Heather Ward scored in the 58th minute and Colorado (7-4-2, 1-2-1) played to a 1-all draw with No. 19 Washington (9-2-2, 2-1-1) in a Pac-12 match in Boulder.

Kimberly Keever scored the Huskies’ lone goal in the 11th minute.
