Jacob Thorpe’s keys to the WSU-Oregon game

What went right

The Washington State offense scored a touchdown in every quarter of Saturday’s game and in both overtime periods. Luke Falk completed 50 of 74 pass attempts for 505 yards, threw five touchdown passes and led the offense to a 6.1 yards per-play average despite taking seven sacks.

What went wrong

Oregon rushed for 427 yards on 50 carries, scoring three touchdowns. Three UO players had a rush of 35 yards or longer and those same three players each averaged 6.5 yards per rush or better. Royce Freeman rushed for 246 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries.

Difference maker

Gabe Marks was again WSU’s best receiver, hauling in eight catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns, including a toe-tapper with 9 seconds left in the first half to keep the Cougars within shouting distance at the break. Marks also set up that touchdown with a 25-yard catch on fourth down.

It was over when

This one didn’t end until Shalom Luani fell to the turf with his winning interception, ending a double-overtime game that lasted 3 hours and 53 minutes.
