Wisconsin hands Nebraska another late-game loss

Rafael Gaglianone made a 46-yard field goal with 4 seconds left after missing from 39 yards just more than a minute earlier, giving Wisconsin a 23-21 victory over Nebraska on Saturday in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Fullback Andy Janovich broke a 55-yard touchdown run with 3:38 left to give Nebraska the lead, but the Cornhuskers (2-4, 0-2 Big Ten) for the second straight week couldn’t put away their opponent. All four of Nebraska’s losses have come on its opponent’s final offensive play.

The Huskers, protecting a one-point lead, played it safe after Gaglianone hit the right upright with his field-goal try with 1:26 left. Wisconsin (4-2, 1-1) got the ball back at its 30 with 1:03 to play and drove to the Nebraska 28, where Gaglianone kicked his winner on third down.

Duke 44, Army 3: At West Point, New York, Thomas Sirk threw for 197 yards and one touchdown and the Blue Devils (5-1) beat the mistake-prone Black Knights (1-5).

BYU 45, East Carolina 38: . At Provo, Utah, Algernon Brown scored on a 9-yard run with 19 seconds left to play and the Cougars (4-2) survived a big fourth-quarter comeback to hold off the Pirates (3-3).

Columbia 26, Wagner 3: At New York, Cameron Molina ran for a touchdown and Max Keefe scored on a fumble return 16 seconds apart early in the first quarter and the Lions (1-3) beat the Seahawks (0-5) to end a 24-game losing streak.

The Lions hadn’t won since beating Cornell 34-17 on Nov. 10, 2012.

North Dakota State 31, Northern Iowa 28: At Fargo, North Dakota, Carson Wentz threw an 18-yard touchdown pass to Darrius Shepherd with 35 seconds remaining to lift the Bison (4-1, 2-0 Missouri Valley) over the Panthers (2-3, 0-2).
