College soccer roundup: WSU posts second straight shutout

The 21st-ranked Washington State women’s soccer team (11-2-0, 4-1-0) turned in its second straight shutout, defeating the Colorado Buffaloes (7-5-2, 1-3-1) in Boulder, Colorado, 3-0 on Sunday.

The Cougars were outshot 20-9 but put more of their shots on goal. Kaitlyn Johnson, Kourtney Guetlein and Tia Gavin scored.

Ella Dederick made a career-high 11 saves in posting the shutout.

Vandals make it five straight: Alyssa Lloyd scored the game’s first goal in the 51st minute and Clara Gomez and Kavita Battan added goals in Idaho’s 3-1 victory over visiting Montana in Moscow.

The victory over the Grizzlies (5-8-2, 2-3-1 Big Sky) gave the Vandals (9-4-1, 5-0-0) their fifth straight win, their best winning streak since 2010.

Gonzaga draws with Saint Mary’s: Christie Tombari’s 14 saves, the program’s highest togal in eight years, helped Gonzaga (2-7-5, 1-2-1 West Coast) gain a 1-1 draw with Saint Mary’s (6-6-3, 1-2-1) in Moraga, Calif.

The Gaels took the lead in the 68th minute before Jodi Ulkekul scored for Gonzaga in the 81st.

Washington blanks Utah: Kelcie Hodge and McKenzie Karas scored and No. 19 Washington (10-2-2, 3-1-1 Pac-12) took a 2-0 victory over Utah (5-6-3, 2-3-0) in Salt Lake City.

Men

GU men win conference opener: Conner Bevans scored on a 30-yard shot in overtime to give Gonzaga (6-5-1, 1-0-0 West Coast) a 2-1 victory over host Portland (2-7-2, 0-1-0) in a conference opener.

David Sigurdsson gave the Bulldogs the lead in the 47th minute before Portland scored in the 51st.
