Semitrailer strikes pedestrian walking wrong way on Highway 2

A semitruck struck a pedestrian who was walking in the direction of traffic on U.S. Highway 2 Monday evening, the Washington State Patrol reported.

Steven P. Mills, 34, was walking westbound on the highway near the fog line, about 5 miles west of Airway Heights. He had his arm outstretched and was struck in the arm by a westbound semitrailer around 7:30 p.m., WSP said in a news release.

Mills, of Spokane, was transported to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center where he was listed in satisfactory condition Tuesday evening. He was cited for walking facing away from traffic, WSP said.

The driver of the truck, Robert J. Hoksbergen, 42, of Lynden, Wash., was not injured.
