College volleyball: Eastern Washington improves to 7-0 in Big Sky

Allie Schumacher’s match-high 14 kills Thursday allowed Eastern Washington to improve to 7-0 in the Big Sky Conference with a 3-1 win over Montana State (3-12, 1-6) at Bozeman.

Ryann Ensrud added 12 digs and three aces, and Alexis Wesley had nine blocks for the Eagles, who are 12-6 overall after eight consecutive wins in which they’ve never dropped more than one game a match.

Chase Doughty had 13 kills and 11 digs for the Bobcats.

Idaho senior libero Jenna Ellis set the school’s career record in digs as the Vandals (7-12, 4-3 Big Sky) defeated host Montana 3-2 at Missoula.

Ellis had 18 digs to give her 1,428, passing the former mark of 1,420 set by Meghan Brown (2002-05).

Becca Mau and Sarah Sharp had 18 kills apiece for the Vandals, who won the fourth game 25-22 and the fifth 15-13. Hannah Sackett had 19 kills for the Grizzlies (4-15, 0-7).

Alexa Gray finished with 21 kills while powering No. 13 Brigham Young to a 25-21, 25-16, 25-16 sweep over visiting Gonzaga in West Coast Conference play at Provo, Utah.

The Bulldogs (12-8, 3-4) led the first game 18-15, but the Cougars (16-2, 6-1) scored the final five points. BYU used a 5-1 run to take a 16-10 lead in the second game, then stormed ahead 7-2 in the final game.

GU’s Savannah Blinn had 11 kills to post double figures in kills for the 17th time this season. Jordan Gasser added 10 kills and Lauren Joseph had 18 assists.

Salt Lake Community College (19-7) swept Community Colleges of Spokane 27-25, 25-14, 25-19 in nonconference play at Spokane Falls CC.

The Sasquatch dropped to 14-22.
