Prep roundup: Gonzaga Prep secures key GSL girls soccer win over Ferris

Larkin Russell broke a 1-all tie with a goal in the 77th minute and Gonzaga Prep beat Ferris 2-1 in a key Greater Spokane League match Friday at Gonzaga Prep.

The win kept the Bullpups undefeated in the GSL. Gonzaga Prep is now two matches ahead of four second-place teams.

The Bullpups’ Rebecca Crum opened the scoring with a Russell-assisted goal in the 12th minute. The lead held up until Ferris’ McKenna Cutler tied the match at 1 with her 68th-minute goal.

Gonzaga Prep (9-2, 7-0) has two remaining regular-season matches – Wednesday against Mead and next Friday against Mt. Spokane, both at home.

The Saxons fell to 7-5 overall and 5-2 in the GSL.

Mead 1, Mt. Spokane 0: Alea Acosta scored off an assists from Alex Chambers in the 31st minute and the Panthers (10-2, 5-2) held on to beat the visiting Wildcats (9-3, 4-3). Mead was in control throughout, limiting Mt. Spokane to just three shots on goal.

Central Valley 1, Lewis and Clark 0: Kailyn Labrosse’s 22nd-minute goal lifted the Bears (8-3, 5-2) past the visiting Tigers (5-7, 1-6). Anna Hilbert assisted on the goal.

University 6, Rogers 0: The Titans (8-4, 5-2) goal goals from six different players and beat the visiting Pirates (0-8, 0-8). Emily Hawley, Kylan Krause, Emma Knudson, Kylee Dickinson, Piper Lawson and Sophia Orndorff all scored for University. All six goals came in the first half.

North Central 1, Shadle Park 0 (SO): The Indians (3-7, 2-5) outscored the visiting Highlanders (3-10, 1-6) 4-2 in a shootout to claim the victory. North Central goalkeeper Sarah Manor came up with a one-on-one save at the end of regulation to help preserve the shutout.

Volleyball

Amanda Chan had 12 kills and 12 digs to lead Mead to a 25-21, 25-13, 25-23 Greater Spokane League win over visiting Ferris.

Sarah Absalonson added 23 assists for the Panthers (6-1). Haley Carl led Ferris (1-6) with 10 kills.

Elsewhere in the GSL, Hailee Etter had 11 digs and three aces and Josie Walser added nine kills as Shadle Park (3-4) won 25-19, 25-16, 25-20 at Rogers.

Mikayla Risinger led the Pirates (0-7) with 14 assists and two blocks.
